If you have a credit ban in place, you might still get notifications from Illion or Experian saying ClearScore has tried to access your credit file. This is completely normal and doesn’t mean someone is applying for credit in your name if you have an active account with us.
Why this happens
When you have a ClearScore account, we keep your credit score and report updated. To do this, we check your information with Illion and Experian. This is called a soft enquiry.
Soft enquiries:
- help us update your ClearScore report
- do not affect your credit score
- are not visible to lenders
- may still show up as an attempt, even with a credit ban in place
With a credit ban, the bureau blocks us from getting a new credit report, but you will still be notified that we attempted to access it. This is expected and doesn’t mean the check went through.
